Highlights of Serbia

Things to do: Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, is a lively city rich in history and culture. Visit the Kalemegdan Fortress, which overlooks the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, or stroll through the bohemian Skadarlija district, lined with traditional restaurants and cobblestone streets. The city of Novi Sad, known for the Petrovaradin Fortress, is home to the famous EXIT music festival. Nature lovers should explore the stunning Đerdap National Park, home to the Iron Gates, a dramatic gorge on the Danube.

Food: Serbian cuisine is a hearty blend of Balkan traditions with Mediterranean and Central European influences. Signature dishes include ćevapi, small grilled minced meat sausages often served with flatbread and onions, and pljeskavica, a Serbian-style burger. Soups and stews like sarma (cabbage rolls filled with meat and rice) and pasulj (bean soup) are staples in the Serbian diet. Desserts such as vanilice (vanilla cookies) and pite sa višnjama (sour cherry pie) are perfect with a shot of rakija, Serbia’s famous fruit brandy.

Nightlife: Montenegro’s nightlife is centered in Budva, known as the country’s party capital. Here, you’ll find beachside clubs, open-air nightspots, and live music events during the summer. Coastal resorts and towns like Herceg Novi and Tivat also offer relaxed bars and lounges for a more laid-back experience.
